IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Stanley
Horsch
August 7, 1929 – October 22, 2023
On the 22nd of October 2023, Stanley Roman Horsch peacefully passed away. He was 94 years old. Stan was born on August 7, 1929, in Andale, KS – the sixth of seven children - to Peter and Mary (Heimerman) Horsch. He married his high school sweetheart Wilma (Lies) in 1950. Stan graduated from St. Louis University Dental School and School of Orthodontics in 1952. In 1953 he and Wilma were stationed in Okinawa Japan during Stan's tour of duty in the Air Force. It was one of the highlights of their lives. They returned to Springfield in 1955 where Stan had a successful Orthodontic practice of 34 years.
Stan was busier in retirement than he was in his practice. He was an avid gardener and one of the original founders of Close Memorial Botanical Gardens in which he took great pride. His involvement with the Gardens spanned many years and was responsible for developing multiple gardens over this time. He was a member of the Woodturners of Southwest Missouri and turned many beautiful pieces, with several being donated to charity. A longtime member of Immaculate Conception Church, he sang in the choir with his beautiful bass voice. He loved playing cards especially poker with his buddies every month. A member of Hickory Hills Country club for over 50 years, Stan enjoyed many hours on the golf course.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years Wilma; his children Sally, Steve (Michell) and Laurie; his grandchildren Tom (Heather), Rebecca, Georgia and Samantha and great-grandchildren Vladamir, Novalie and Stella.
A special thank you to the amazing staff in the Dogwood neighborhood at Quail Creek Skilled Nursing.
Visitation will be held at Immaculate Conception Church on Monday, October 30th from 10-11am. Funeral Mass from 11-12pm. Family burial to follow under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations could be made to Friends of the Garden to support the Woodland Garden. This was a garden Stan created. Please call 417-874-2952 for details.
