IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sondra Jane
Smith
October 29, 1952 – September 23, 2024
In Loving Memory of Sondra Jane Smith (1952 - 2024)
Born in Cape Girardeau, MO
Sondra Smith , a devoted mother, grandmother, and beloved friend, passed away on September 23, 2024, surrounded by those who loved her most. She is preceded in death by her mother, Glenora Lacey, father, Jay Hoffman, and brother, Johnny Hoffman. She leaves behind her loving partner, Layne Lynch, cherished "puppy girls" Macy and Brit, her son Bo Barks, daughter-in-law Rachel Barks, and her three treasured grandchildren: Noah, Ava, and Luka.
Sondra enjoyed a 40-year career as an interior designer, which blossomed in her later years into a passion for general contracting. She found joy in transforming houses into homes, and her meticulous attention to detail, creativity, and love of art made her a pioneer in her field. Sondra embraced the art of possibility, bringing beauty to the world through her work and personal interests, which included her love of fishing, horses, holiday decorating, and organizing social events.
Her generosity and kindness touched countless lives, as she often gave second chances to those she believed in. Her radiant spirit and loving nature left a profound impact on everyone she met. People frequently spoke of her warmth and compassion, always remarking on how wonderful she was, often calling her the kindest person they had ever known. Her memory will continue to inspire and uplift all who were fortunate enough to have experienced her kindness firsthand.
A memorial service will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, followed by a celebration of life from 5 to 8 p.m. at "425 DownTown" in downtown Springfield. To reflect Sondra's love for color and flowers, the family invites those wishing to honor her to do so with floral arrangements, which can be sent directly to the funeral home prior to her service. We look forward to gathering with loved ones to celebrate her beautiful life and lasting legacy.
Her light, love, and legacy will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew her.
