Obituary

Shirley A. Smith, age 89, peacefully passed away January 18, 2025 surrounded by her family. She was born in Bonfield, Illinois on December 20, 1935. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lawrence Lindeman; her parents; and several siblings.

On June 2, 1979, she married Clayton Smith, and two beautiful families became one. Clayton and Shirley moved to Springfield, Missouri in 1987.

One of her favorite hobbies was going to estate sales and searching for china patterns. Her most beloved time, however, was spent during Christmas time or special family events when the entire family could be together and the many times she helped babysit grandchildren. She was also a huge Kansas City Chiefs fan…the family knew not to call during a game!

Survivors include sons, David Lindeman (Kathy), Lake Elsinore, California, Derek Lindeman (Kristie), Sun City West, Arizona; daughters, Denise Field (Mike), Maryville, Tennessee, Melea Basom, Clayton, North Carolina and Deanne Lindeman Wilson (Victor), Springfield, Missouri; eight grandsons, Chris Field (Emily), Huntersville, North Carolina, Keith Basom, Jr. (Jennifer), Raleigh, North Carolina, Dawson and Devlin Lindeman, Lake Elsinore, California, Drew Lindeman, Springfield, Missouri, Ross Lindeman, Washington, Missouri, Brody and Drake Wilson, Springfield, Missouri; two granddaughters, Campbell and Sloane Wilson, Springfield, Missouri;  three great-grandchildren, Hannah and Ella Field, Huntersville, North Carolina, Clayton Basom, Raleigh, North Carolina; and 2 sisters, Joyce Eisert and Barbara Baker, Springfield, Missouri.

A Celebration of Life will be held this summer at the lake with her family.
