Sharon Lee (Dowen) Salveter, 72, Springfield, passed away at 8 a.m. on April 17,2010 in Quail Creek Nursing due to complications from a fall in her home. Sharon was born on December 17, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois to Gerald and Miriam Downen. She was united in marriage to Ted C. Salveter, III on August 30, 1957 in the Webster Baptist Church, Webster Groves, Missouri. Sharon graduated from Webster Groves highschool in 1955. She attended Drury University, and was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. She graduated from Washington University in St. Louis in 1960 with a bachelors degree in Education, and Missouri State University with a Masters in Education in 1977. Sharon taught school in Valley Park and Pattonville in St. Louis while Ted was in law school in St. Louis University. She retired from the Springfield Public Schools in 1997 as an ESL teacher at Hickory Hills Middle School. Sharon was a member of Avant Gard of SMMA, Twin Oaks Country Club, the YMCA, and Evangel Temple Christian Center. She taught Sunday school at University Heights Baptist Church, and Missionettes at Evangel Temple. She was an avid tennis player, ran races, did aerobics, and struggled with golf. She loved to hike and travel with her family and friends. She was a loving, caring and wonderful wife, sister and mother. Sharon was predeceased by her parents; a son, Philip (Tony) Salveter; and a nephew Chris McConnell. She is survived by her husband Ted; children Ted Salveter, IV and his wife Arlene of Ash Grove, Paige Salveter and her husband Andy Brez of Kansas City, Missouri; sisters Pat Biesinger and husband Bob of Brownsville, Oregon, Mary McConnell and husband Anthony of Nixa; brother Tom (Chuck) Downen and his wife Sherry of Rogersville; a cousin Cristie Donohue and her husband Terry of Harrison, Arkansas; a brother in law Charles Salveter of Halltown; brother in law Bob Salveter and his wife Jeri of Laughlin, Nevada; and sister-in-law Celia Salveter of Arlington, Texas; two grandchildren, Rachael Salveter of Dallas, Texas, and Brennon Salveter of Springfield; nieces Amy and Lara Salveter, Margo McConnell Siemering and Kelly McConnell, Jeri Lynn Hawk, Sandy Biesinger, Lisa Biesinger; and nephews, Bobby Biesinger, Bob Downen, and Andy Downen. She had many dear and loving friends and fellow teachers. Our special thanks of the nurses and staff in Quail Creek Nursing and Good Shepard Hospice for the love and care they gave to her. Services will be in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home on April 20, 2010 at 10 a.m., and visitation will be in Evangel Temple Christian Church from 6 to 8 p.m. on April 19, 2010. Burial will be following in Maple Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Tony Salveter Scholarship at William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri, or to the charity of the donors choice.
