IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sharon L.
Miller
June 24, 1939 – July 26, 2021
Sharon Lee Miller departed this earth July 26, 2021 after a heroic battle with Parkinson's Disease. Her life reflected true grace and beauty through her actions, her dedication, and her love of family.
Sharon was born on June 24, 1939 in Kansas City Missouri to James and Freda McCullough. As the oldest sister in a large and, later, blended family, Sharon took on the role at a young age of nurturer, cook, and disciplinarian. After high school, Sharon headed to Kirksville Missouri to attend Northeast Missouri State Teachers College where she studied art and elementary education. Here, she met the love of her life, James Miller. After marrying James in 1960, Sharon taught first grade in Auxvasse Missouri while James finished law school. From there, James' service in the Air Force took them to Greenville, Mississippi and back to Kansas City before the couple settled for good in Springfield, Missouri. It is here that they made a home and anchored roots. From those roots came fifty-five years of marital joy, four sons, Mark, Jeffrey, Matthew, and Christopher, six grandchildren, and countless friends.
Sharon's first job in Springfield was as a first grade teacher at Hickory Hills School. But it was not long before son Jeff came along and Sharon settled into her role as the nurturing and detail-attentive mother, partner, community and church volunteer, and friend that so many in Springfield knew and loved.
Sharon and James were active members of University Heights Baptist Church where they made long-lasting close friendships. Sharon enjoyed dancing, art, socializing with friends, cooking, and the church's Women's Circle, but nothing filled her with joy quite like her family. After her sons got older, Sharon worked alongside James in his law office where she greeted clients with her genuine soft laugh and warm smile.
Sharon is preceded in death by her infant son Mark of Kansas City, and her husband James of Springfield, her mother, father, and stepfather John Legendre of Hermitage, MO, a brother Jimmy and sister Linda of Kansas City MO, brothers John of Kansas City, and Dean of Hermitage, Missouri. She leaves behind three sons, Jeff (Angie), Matthew (Stacy), and Chris (Alison), all of Springfield, sister Belva Giesing (Dennis) of Lee's Summit, MO, six grandchildren (Collin, Darquez, Seth, Nora, Charlotte, Coco, Lucy), many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
Those who knew Sharon consistently used similar words to describe her: saint, angel, superwoman, sweetheart. We were all blessed to be a part of her circle and were made better by her presence and her care. We will miss her terribly but know she is dancing again today with James among other saints and angels and for this we are so thankful.
Funeral Service will be Wednesday, August 11 at 11:00 AM at University Heights Baptist Church. No formal visitation is scheduled but friends may call after 1 pm at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers the family invites a charitable donation in Sharon's memory to the Convoy of Hope, Council of Churches of the Ozarks, or a children's book gifted to your local library.
