IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Shannon Michelle
Hood
October 23, 1969 – January 5, 2026
Visitation
"The stallion reached the top of the hill and stood there, like a beautiful black statue, his gaze upon the open sea." – Walter Farley, The Black Stallion
Shannon Michelle Hood passed away January 5, 2026, in Kansas City, Missouri, after personal health struggles over several years.
Shannon was born to Robert and Patricia Adams on October 23, 1969, at the Naval Hospital in Orlando, Florida. She grew up at their Springfield, Missouri, residence in a pleasant childhood colored by her love for horses-of which the Adams owned two, Heidi and April Star. An avid competitor in horse shows, she attended Springfield public schools and Glendale High School.
In 1991, Shannon became a graduate of the University of Missouri and an alumna of their Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. Following in her dentist father's footsteps, she then graduated from UMKC School of Dental Hygiene, where she would remain in adulthood. In 2000, she married resident Matt Hood in Telluride, Colorado. They would separate in 2012.
As she turned her attention to raising her two daughters (born 2002, 2004), Shannon left the dental practice. During these years, she put her passions for film and writing into her now-retired blog, frothygirlz, as a film critic. Shannon's reviews have been featured in the Kansas City Star, Flimjunk.com, Flickcast, and Pajiba, among other publications and podcasts. Between frothygirlz and raising her daughters, she also committed her time to her work as a fitness instructor.
In recent years, Shannon is remembered for an enduring passionate, opinionated, and loving spirit despite personal struggles.
She is survived by daughters, Keely and Tatum Hood, as well as parents, Robert and Patricia Adams, brother, Brad Adams, his wife, Katie, nephews, Hunter and James; aunts, uncles, cousins and numerous other family and friends who carry this loss with heavy hearts.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, 2026 in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations in Shannon's name may be made to your favorite food bank or animal shelter.
