Obituary

Scott Charles Higgins, 56, of Springfield, MO, completed his time on earth after a hard-fought 15-year battle with cancer. He was born on May 1, 1961 in Beatrice, NE to Charles and Verneel Higgins. He graduated from Beatrice High School and Southeast Community College of Milford. On October 22, 1982 he married Jacqueline Wallman at Zion Lutheran Church of Pickrell, NE. To this union, two children were born, Shea and Grant. They lived in Beatrice from 1982 to 2004, moved to Douglasville, Georgia for a short time, then moved to Ozark, MO. They have lived in Springfield, MO for the past three years. Scott was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith. He was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.

Scott had a lifetime career in the manufacturing industry which allowed him to travel the world. He was most recently employed for the last 14 years as General Manager at Custom MetalCraft, Inc. He had an impeccable work ethic in both his professional and personal life. He never failed to be at the gym every weekday morning at 5am before work, and enjoyed being physically fit. For many years he bowled in leagues and tournaments, where he achieved multiple 300 games. He was a Nebraska Husker football fan, and loved outdoor activities including biking, running, triathlons, boating, and being in the warm sun, except when he was hunting pheasant in the winter with his dog.

After the birth of his children, family became his priority, and he included them in his active life style. He loved family activities and always being together. His wife and children will always remember his love and loyalty.

He leaves memories to be cherished by his wife, Jacqueline; one daughter, Shea Higgins and her fiancé, Isaiah Reece; one son, Grant Higgins and his girlfriend, Madelyn Dezort; and granddaughter, Avilene Reece; father, Charles Higgins; parents-in-law, Eldon and Lorene Wallman; sisters-in-law Susan and husband Kenny Newman, Cindy and husband Paul Jurgens; brother-in-law Paul and wife Stephanie Wallman; and five nieces and their families. He was preceded in death by his mother, Verneel Higgins in 1986, his step-mother Vonnie Higgins in 2014, and his grandparents.

Memorials in Scott's memory may be given to Lazarex Cancer Foundation, P.O. Box 741, Danville, CA 94526. This foundation supported Scott's monthly travel for three years to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.
