Saundra (Sam) Kay Rorrer-Rose, aged 63 years, of Springfield, departed this life on Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at home after a two-year battle with brain cancer. Sam was born July 14, 1948 in Gainesville MO to Ted and Blanche (Jennings) Tannehill. Her parents instilled a very deep and abiding love for the Lord, a love for family, and a very strong work ethic. Sam was a long time employee for SOLO Cup (Lily Tulip), holding a variety of titles through the years, taking pleasure in mastering jobs considered a "man's job." She is survived by her husband Dennis; her sister Hazel and husband Ed Tuhey; two sons, Darren and wife Regina, Scott and wife Tracy; two step-sons, Chris and wife Amber, and Brad; three grandsons, Alex, Seth, and Mason; two granddaughters, Taylor and Morgan; one great granddaughter, Hadley; two nephews, Randy and Steve Tuhey and their families, and her dear friend, Mama Lea. A special thank you to the staff at the Hulston Cancer Center, the staff of 8 West and the Respiratory Department at Cox South, the Neurology staff at Ferrell-Duncan Clinic, Oxford Hospice, and the entire crew of Walgreens at Grand and Kansas. Your efforts, attitudes, and assistance illustrate the potential positives of dealing with such a sad disease. We would also like to express thanks to all of those special friends who were not afraid of the changes, and took time from their own lives to share with Sam, to be with her in her decline. A visitation will be hosted at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home on Thursday, October 6, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be at the same venue on Friday, October 7 at 12:00 PM, followed by interment at Maple Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Cancer Services of the CoxHealth Foundation. To quote Sam, and her daddy Ted, "Thank you Jesus."
