November 9, 1924 – January 18, 2020
On January 18, 2020 Sarah Lee Hagan, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend passed away at the age of 95.
Sarah was born on November 9, 1924 in Stamps, AR to Robert and Arthelia Meeler. Sarah enjoyed playing basketball during her high school years and went on to graduate earning her high school diploma. She attended Howard Payne University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree. She earned her Master's Degree from Pittsburg State University. Sarah was an elementary education teacher for over 30 years and taught in Missouri and Oklahoma. Sarah's true passion was teaching, and she never passed up an opportunity to teach a lesson or encourage reading. She was a lifetime member of NEA and Alpha Delta Kappa and a supporter of the Democratic Party.
As a pastor's wife Sarah worked alongside her husband JR in Texas, Missouri, Oklahoma and South Dakota. She was instrumental in updating the library at University Heights Baptist Church. Sarah had a passion for gardening after her retirement and spent many hours in their lovely yard growing flowers and vegetables. Nothing pleased her more than being able to give the produce to neighbors and friends or surprising someone with a bouquet of her beautiful roses.
Sarah was preceded in death by her parents, eight brothers and sisters, husband James Revellie Hagan and grandsons-in-law Matt Patton and Kent Davis.
She is survived by her sons Jim (Nancy) and Roger; four granddaughters, Jill Patton-Davis, Cori Dinwiddie (Scott), LeeAnn Randall (Barrett) and Sarah Shands (Jeff) and a special loved one Janice Hagan. Sarah lived to see twelve great grandchildren born into the family.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the wonderful care and compassion she received for many years at the Baptist Home in Ozark. The family will be eternally grateful for the compassionate care from CoxHealth at Home Hospice.
Graveside Services will be held on Friday, January 31, 2020 at 2:00 PM at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery. Friends are invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the University Heights Baptist Church Library or the UHBC Foundation Fund.
