Sandra Ann Pierpont, 83, of Springfield, passed away on Saturday, November 5, 2016. Born on March 23, 1933 in Toledo, Illinois, she moved to Springfield in her early life. She graduated from Greenwood High School and later earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Missouri University, graduating with honors. Sandra married John T. Pierpont on June 16, 1955 and was happily married for 60 years. Sandra worked in Elementary Education with the Springfield School Systems for over 34 years. She was respected by students, teachers and administration. She was a long time member of First and Calvary Presbyterian Church, where she was very active in the Binnie Clements Guild. Sandra was also active in the Republican Party and was a charter member of Twin Oaks Country Club. She was a skilled golfer and swimmer. She was also a member of the Springfield Association for the Blind. Sandra received numerous recognitions from all the boards she served on, and she had a passion for helping children through her giving heart.

Sandra was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret Martin and her husband Lon, as well as her father, August Caylor.

She is survived by her husband, John T. Pierpont; loved daughter, Catherine Ann Pierpont of Tulsa, OK; devoted son, John T. Pierpont III (Dr. Teresa); cherished granddaughter, Annie Pierpont; beloved pet boxer, Floyd; sister-in-law Ellen Guy (Gary) and their children and grandchildren of Willard, MO. She also leaves behind many friends and fellow teachers who will miss her entertaining conversations and beautiful smile.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 11, 2016 at 1:00 pm at First and Calvary Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow at Maple Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 10, from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association Greater Missouri Chapter, 3645 South Ave, Springfield, MO 65807.
