Obituary

Sandra G. Henry (Locke) 75, of Brookline, MO passed away May 5, 2021.

She was born Nov. 1, 1944 to Hubert S. and Hazel Helen (Massey) Locke in Springfield, MO, both preceded her in death. Her middle son Matthew L. Henry passed away in 2019. His unexpected loss from cancer was her greatest struggle in life, and she spoke often about how she longed to see him again.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Gary L. Henry; her oldest son Jeff Henry and his wife Paula and their son Hubert; her youngest son Greg; granddaughter Elizabeth, and grandsons Jared, Joshua by her late son Matthew and his widow Carrie. Her love for her grandchildren was unquestionable and each gave her immense joy. She reveled in each of their unique personalities. She cherished their visits long or short and her weekly visits to granddaughter Elizabeth was one of her greatest joys. She loved her cousins and her niece and nephews and their children like they were her own.

Sandi was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church but in her last years she was an enthusiastic attendant of The Venues church in Spfld. Her spiritual life was extremely important to her. She taught youth Sunday school for many years at St. Paul Methodist and was continuously involved in groups and organizations that furthered her own and others education in Christ's word.

She and husband Gary were the co-founders of Henry's Towing and Wrecker Service in 1970. They operated Henry's until son Matt took it over in the early 2010s. She was a successful real estate agent and broker. Starting her career at Lewis and Co. Century 21 in the early '80's, she was the first agent in Spfld. to sell over one million dollars in property in one year at an average home price of $35k. She went on to own her own Brokerage that, along with her late son Matthew, developed properties in the Republic area. Her other successful entrepreneurial endeavors included retail and cattle farming.

Sandi was involved in many social activities. She, and husband Gary, hosted many veterans' reunions and traveled frequently with friends and car club members for decades.

Her love of flowers and nature shone brightly each year as her gardens and flowers were expanded continuously. She loved to decorate for every holiday, but Christmas was her favorite of all. Trees and Santas filled every corner of her home and made it a true wonderland for her family and friends.

Her greatest trait was her generosity both emotionally and financially.  Known as Mama H. to hundreds, she had a giving heart that had no bottom and tried to empathize whenever she could. She remembered her own struggles and wanted to ease other's whenever she could. Anonymously making sure her employees' mortgages were paid in emergencies or paying for their dental work and Dr.'s appointments was something few people knew she did. She needed no pat on the back for her generosity. Helping children in need and even paying for the order behind her at a fast-food place was just instinctual for her. She believed helping others was important and helping those around her the most important of all.

She would want to thank each and every one of you and wish you the best of luck and happiness in your futures. She will be missed by so many more than we will ever know.

Sandi has chosen to be cremated. There will be no visitation or viewing before the service.
