IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Samuel A
Lynch
March 1, 1933 – February 17, 2025
Samuel A. Lynch passed away on February 17, 2025. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Ruth Lynch and survived by Sara Lynch, his children James, Linda Kathrine, and Janet, his grandchildren Olyvia, Ben, Andrea, Alex, Zeta, Christopher, and Megan, and great grandchildren Nadia, Annika, Jonathan, and Caleb.
Samuel Lynch was born on March 1, 1933 in Marshall, Arkansas. Samuel was the youngest child in a blended family with many siblings. His family moved to California when he was 9 years old, and then back to Arkansas a few years later.
He remembers hitchhiking with his friends to go swimming in the Buffalo River. He and his friends usually jumped from the lower rocks into the river, unless girls showed up to watch, in which case they all became very brave, jumping from much higher cliffs into the water.
Samuel played basketball in High School and starred as "Grandpa" in "Grandpa's Twin Sister." He loved both sports and theater but left them to join the military. He was honorably discharged in 1960, the same year he proposed to and married Sara Matthews. Their first two children, James and Ruth, were born in Wichita, Kansas, and two more, Kathy and Janet, were born in Springfield, Missouri. Samuel and Sara faithfully brought their children to church three times a week and provided them with love and support for their various hobbies.
Samuel was the first in his family to attend and graduate from college. After graduation, he became a math professor and worked at Southwest Missouri State University. Samuel had a brilliant mind for technology. He was expert on graphing calculators who wrote manuals and trained professors on how to use them. As a professor, he was known for his sense of humor and kind, understanding attitude.
Samuel and Sara were married for 31 years and divorced for 34 years afterwards. Neither one remarried. Samuel never stopped loving Sara. He supported her as she raised their granddaughter, Olyvia and kept in close contact throughout the years.
In retirement, Samuel taught math in Saudi Arabia and in Ellensburg, Washington. He had countless adventures in his 91.9 years of life and recognized the grace and goodness of God that had been granted to him so often. He left this earth surrounded with the love and prayers of his family and caregivers. His family and friends rejoice as he is now in the very presence of the Source of love, our Savior, Jesus Christ.
