Sammy Jean (Balden) Mayhall, age 65, of Springfield, MO, passed away on December 30, 2016 at Cox South Hospital. Sammy was born to Fred H. Balden, Jr. and Thelma Louise (Graber) Balden in Monett, Missouri on January 11, 1951.

She graduated from Glendale High School, where she loved being a member of the Glendale Glengarry Scots Drum and Bugle Corps (Scotties). Following high school, she attended two years of college at Missouri State University.

Sammy had an artistic spirit and worked as a florist for many years. She loved animals, all kinds of music, crossword puzzles, and fast cars. She also enjoyed many adventures traveling the countryside by motorcycle with her husband, Michael Hackworth.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Jack Dalton Mayhall; and her 1984 black and gold Trans Am.

She is survived by Michael Hackworth; her children, Caleb (Amber Ayars) Mayhall of Salem, NJ and Molly (William) Mayhall Vandervoort of Austin, TX; her grandson, Hans Vandervoort; her siblings, Allen Balden, Fred Balden, III, and Sally (Leroy) Wade; her nieces, Madeline (Jacob) Vandergrift, Hannah (Michael) Mountain, and Cara (David Samples) Coats; her great-nephew, Samuel Vandergrift; and her dear friend, Debby Coats.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at 3:00pm at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, 1947 E. Seminole St., Springfield, MO 65804. Burial will follow at Hazelwood Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 3, 2017 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at the funeral home.
