Obituary

Sam G. Squires, beloved husband of Martha (Neanie) Squires, passed away October 10, 2015 at the age of 85. He was born July 29, 1930 in Springfield, Missouri, to Elizabeth and Everett Squires. He is survived by his wife Neanie; his son Bradley; his daughter, Anna. Also his loving daughter-in-law, Julie, his granddaughter Erin Olson and her husband, Aaron; his brother, John Squires and family, and the family of Charles Squires (deceased). Sam attended Springfield Senior High School and Drury College, graduating with a B.A. in business. He joined the U.S. Navy upon graduation and served aboard the destroyer U.S. Cassin Young where he served as engineering officer. Sam married Neanie Woodbury on December 29, 1954 in Springfield. The couple lived in Newport, Rhode Island, until his tour of duty was over. Sam was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity, Royal Order of Jesters, Hickory Hills Country Club, and Spring Greene Investment Group. He founded Boyd Aluminum Co. in 1959 and worked there until retirement. His son Bradley assumed management after his retirement. He enjoyed many hours playing golf and cards with dear friends at Hickory Hills Country Club. He loved his time fishing on the Buffalo, Jacks Fork and other Missouri rivers. Sam is remembered for his intelligence, kindness, devotion, compassion, and his loving nature. Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 in South Street Christian Church with the Reverend Janet Given, officiating, under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. Visitation will follow the service in the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to South Street Christian Church.
