Ruth Elizabeth (Williams) Kennon, 91, of Springfield, passed away on January 16, 2014 at the James River Care Center in Springfield. Ruth was born July 13, 1922 to John R. and Emma E. Williams in Kansas City, MO, She spent her early years in Kansas City and St. Joseph, MO. In 1943, Ruth was united in marriage to Leslie L. Kennon and together they had one daughter, Lisa. Ruth was a homemaker for much of her life, but was also employed for 14 years in a physician's office. She was very involved in her church, King's Way United Methodist, where she was a member of United Methodist Women, King's Stewards Sunday School Class, the prayer ministry, and she volunteered in the financial office for several years. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who loved gardening, birds, playing bridge, and spending time with her family and friends. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Les, in 1980, two step-sons, Leslie Gene Kennon, and Gary Kennon, and her sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Kenneth Fitting. She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Powell and her husband , Gary, Springfield, grandchildren; Natalie Powell, Wesley Campbell, and Brandon Powell, Springfield, Clayton Campbell and his wife, Julianna, Columbia, MO, and Laura Powell, West Palm Beach, FL, nieces; Jeanette NewVille and her husband, Hal, and Diane Fitting, and great-niece Lisa Marcus, and her husband, Ted, all of Colorado. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 25, at King's Way United Methodist with a funeral service immediately following at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at Rivermonte Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are through Gorman-Scharpf. Memorial gifts may be made to King's Way Methodist Church. The family would like to thank the staff at the James River Care Center and Hospice Compassus for their excellent care of Ruth.
