Ruth Louise (Kastendieck) Gay, 92 of Springfield, MO, passed away on November 6, 2015. Ruth was born on the family farm in Billings, MO on September 14, 1923, to Karl D. and Minnie (Peiter) Kastendieck. She was a graduate of Billings High School Class of 1941 and then became a Registered Nurse upon completion of the Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in 1944. Kenneth L. Gay was the love of her life and they were united in marriage on August 23, 1944. They were married for 71 years and raised two sons; David and Daniel. She was employed as an R.N. at Baptist Hospital and then Springfield Public Schools as a School Nurse. Ruth and Kenneth were members of First and Calvary Presbyterian Church. Ruth loved to cook and bake for family celebrations, play cards with friends, decorate for the holidays (especially Christmas); and, oh yes, shop after her weekly beauty shop appointments. Ruth is survived by her immediate family; husband, Kenneth; sons and daughters-in-laws David and Donna of Papillion, NE; Daniel and Jami of Fordland, MO; grandchildren: Lori Svendsen, Aimee Gay, Lisa Nelson and Mike Conner; great-grandchildren: Michael, Haylee and Ashley Svendsen, Cooper and Kylee Nelson, Garrett Conner; siblings: Carl Edward Kastendieck and Anna Lee Dobbins. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Josephine E. Cross, Mary Jane Merrick and Clifford W. Kastendieck. Visitation to be held at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home on November 10 at 7:00 p.m. and service at 2:00 p.m, on November 11 in the funeral home. Burial will follow at Hazelwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to First and Calvary Presbyterian Church.
