Obituary

Russell Eugene Massey, 58, of Sylvania, Georgia earned his castle Monday, September 24, 2018 when his twenty-eight month battle with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia ended.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Wallace and Winifred Massey; sister, Kathy Massey; and children, Robert Tyler Massey (age 12) of Ft. Knox, KY and Lucas Edward Massey (age 24) of Ft. Leonard Wood, MO, who both succumbed to Cystic Fibrosis in 1995 and 2012, respectively, in Springfield, MO.

He is survived by his wife of twenty-seven years, Billie Jean (Bender) Massey.

Mr. Massey's motto was God, country, and family. He served fourteen cumulative years in the U.S. Army since nineteen years of age, finished college at his wife's alma mater, AASU, on the Post 9/11 GI Bill, and was an Owner/Operator for eight years. He was worldly, an oath keeper, true patriot and Good man with a passion for current events, knowledge and truth seeking. He was a man that risked life and liberty to defend the weak, physically disabled and elderly when others did nothing. He was kind, well-mannered, accepting of others and loyal.

A military committal will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 29, 2018 at Maple Park Cemetery in Springfield, MO beside his sons, under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home.
