Obituary

On Saturday, February 4, 2023, Ronald (Ron) Lee Wingo, loving husband and father of two children, passed away at age 72 after a battle with cancer.

Ron was born on April 10, 1950 in Springfield, MO to Gene and Nellie Wingo. After graduation from Central High School in 1968, he worked various jobs before finding his passion by managing a successful insurance business for 30 years. On January 1, 1968 he married Belinda Futrell. They raised two children, Tyler Lee Wingo and Trissa Dawn Wingo Fletcher. Ron married Alice Marie Hardison on November 23, 1993 who remained by his side for 30 years.

Ron had a passion for people and travel. He loved meeting new folks and having an opportunity "to visit". He was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile, his humorous stories, and his kind and compassionate spirit.

One of Ron's lifelong passions was baseball. He said, "I want my children and their children to know just how much I loved baseball." From the age of six when he watched his first World Series on his family's first television in their Central Street home, Ron loved the game and played baseball or softball for the next 40 years. Ron believed that baseball is reflective of life in many ways, particularly how there is always a game within the game. Ron said, "Learn baseball, and you learn life." The innumerable hours that Ron and his family spent at the ballpark are among the very fondest memories that Tyler and Trissa had growing up.

Ron was preceded in his death by his father, Gene, his mother Nellie, and his daughter Trissa. He is survived by his wife Alice of Fair Grove, MO, his son Tyler and wife Teri of Fremont Hills, MO, his son-in-law James Fletcher of Wooster, AR, his grandchildren Trenton Wingo, Tessa Wingo, Treslyn and her husband Matt Dye, and Tate Fletcher; brother Gary G.Wingo and wife Sandy of Springfield, and brother Michael W. Wingo and wife Lisa of Springfield.
