Obituary

Ronald Harry Waggoner, age 75, of Springfield Missouri was born in Appleton Wisconsin on January 1, 1946 and passed away at the Truman Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Lamar, Missouri on October 6, 2021 after a 7 ½  year battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Ron attended high school at New Town, ND exceling in several sports, which led him to Evangel College, Springfield MO for one year and then to North Dakota State University, Fargo, ND for four more years, where he participated in basketball and track. Those efforts earned him a place in the NDSU Hall of fame in 1994.

Ron married Cheryl McDougal in 1967 and began teaching and coaching in high schools at New Leipzig, ND and Carrington. ND. He became a State Farm Insurance agent in Carrington in 1972 but continued to help coach students in his spare time. During these years two sons were born and many friends were made. When Ron became your friend, he was your friend for life. Moving on to Cook, MN for the rest of his 30 years with State Farm, he continued to enjoy coaching and mentoring young men and women in his favorite sports—and life. In 2006 Ron and Cheryl moved to Springfield, MO where he worked for Convoy of Hope.

Music was a huge part of his life and was especially important to him in these past few years. He sang in several church choirs and mentored a group of high school students, The Kings Kids, who sang in churches in the Carrington area. He also was the bass for the Take Four quartet who sang gospel songs and barbershop music at church and community events.

Basketball, football, javelin, golf, hunting, fishing, and horse riding rounded out his many interests and hobbies. He enjoyed them with his parents, siblings, sons, and friends. He had a keen sense of humor and a generous heart. He especially loved doing magic tricks for little children. He will be missed by many people of all ages.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Don and Dorothy Waggoner, and his sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Roger Sorbo. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl, Springfield MO; two sisters, Carol (Allan) Metzger, Bismarck ND, and Doree (Hal) Donaldson, Springfield MO; two sons, Rick (Carrie) Waggoner, Springfield MO, and Lon (Jen) Waggoner, Gilbert AZ; four grandchildren, Quinn Waggoner, Charlotte NC, Paige Waggoner, Alexandria VA, Jezzerae Remmen, Phoenix AZ, and Lathan Waggoner, Gilbert AZ, and many nieces and nephews.
