Ronald J. "R.J." Nelson, 64, Springfield, MO, passed away Friday July 13, 2012 in Mercy Hospital. He was born December 23, 1947 in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Ralph A. and Marjorie Theresa Nelson. He graduated from Parkview High School in 1967. He served his country in the United States Air Force. R.J. Retired after 25 years with the Federal Medical Center. He was an avid racecar fan, perennial prankster and a loving grandfather. R.J. was preceded in death by his father, Ralph A. Nelson and a nephew Eugene C. Nelson, II. He is survived by his loving wife, Janet Lee Nelson; mother, Marjorie Theresa Nelson; a daughter, Kim Franklin and husband, Todd; three brothers, Eugene C. Nelson and wife, Diane, James E. Nelson and wife, Brenda and Michael L. Nelson and wife Jule; two grandchildren, Tabbie and Trevor; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2012 in Immaculate Conception Church under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. Burial with full military honors will follow at 2:00 p.m. in Missouri Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
