Roger Dale Thomison died after a brief illness July 25th, 2013 at Mercy Health Center, surrounded by his family. Roger was born April 14th, 1949 in Springfield, Missouri to William F. Thomison and Pauline Thomison. Roger went on to serve in the United States Navy, eventually settling back in Springfield where he began to work for General Electric for over 15 years. Roger loved his cars and his Harleys, but especially loved his spunky little red head, wife Diane who stood by his side for over 38 years. He is also survived by step-daughter, April Smith Roper of Springfield; his mother Pauline Ewing; aunt, Barbara Yocom (Kenny); uncle, Jay Long; sisters-in-law, Jeanie Blackburn Simmons of Springfield, and Sally Smith of Bakersville, California. Also surviving him is half-brother, Don Thomison of Oziedo, Florida; two nephews, Cory Smith and Tony Thomison; and two nieces, Nicole Blackburn Beckett and Nikki Roper. He is also survived by several great nieces, nephews, and cousins. And many great friends who will miss him. He was preceded in death by his father and two brothers, Robert and Gerry. Graveside services with full military honors will be at 11 a.m. Monday, July 29, 2013 at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. The family wishes to thank the E.R. doctors, Paramedics, Dr. Cochran, Dr. Patel, and his special nurse in ICU- E, Chris. Mercy is blessed to have you all. The care was extraordinary and we know Roger was aware of that. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society in Roger's memory.
