Obituary

Rodger Mark Buffington ("Buff") of Halfway, MO passed away Monday, July 27, 2015 at the age of 74 of complications with his ongoing battle with cancer. He was surrounded by family. Rodger was born in Golden City, MO to Martin Pierce Buffington and Helen Pauline Kifer and was an only child. He graduated from Central High School in Springfield. He spent his youth as a member of the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Explorer Scouts and the Sea Scouts. He was a radioman in the Navy and was proficient in Morse code. Rodger spent his entire life enjoying the outdoors, especially fly fishing, horseback riding, gardening and creating. He was married to Vicki Lynn Vandaveer on August 15, 1965 and they had four children: Carrie Mitchell, Beau Buffington, Daniel Buffington and Amy Gomme. Starting his professional career as a claims agent for Frisco railroad, he then went on to become the Owner/Manager of ABC Pictures print shop. Rodger was a Master Mason and 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason. Rodger is survived by Vicki (Vandaveer) Buffington, their four children, 7 grand-children and his companion of 8 years, Shyla Fisher. A service will be held August 15, 2015 at 1 pm at the Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home 1947 E. Seminole (417) 886-9994. In lieu of flowers, Rodger requested that donations be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Foundation as they were supportive during his treatments. A special thank you to this foundation and to the staff at Mercy ICU for their kindness, support and compassion during this difficult time. Rodger once said that upon his passing he hoped he would be fishing in the Great Montana in the Sky... Catch the Big One, Dad!
