Robert Leslie Umphres

Bob Umphres passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at the age of 92.  He was born June 13, 1928 in Greene County to Thomas and Vesta Umphres.  He graduated from Springfield Senior High (Central) in 1946 and attended Drury College and Southwest Missouri State College (MSU).  He spent four years in the U.S Naval Reserve unit at Drury College. He married Linda Rogers in 1950 and they had two children, Cathy, and Roger.

In the late 1950's he started All Parts Auto Salvage.  He was the original partner and founder of Ye Olde Buggy Bath Car Wash, owner of La Rosa Trailer Park and Sales and Kearney Street Auto Sales and Mini Storage. He was active in The Shriners for 25 years.

He was instrumental in starting Greene Hills Golf and Country Club and spent many happy hours on the golf course. For forty years he enjoyed his Thursday golf game with Dick Bonham, John Klingner and Bill Gould. There will definitely be a Thursday tee time in Heaven scheduled for them.  Bob never met a stranger and enjoyed his many friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda, his parents and brothers Edward and Ernie Umphres.  Bob is survived by his daughter Cathy (Barry), and his son Roger Umphres, grandchildren Karissa, Geoff, Tom and Courtney and their spouses and seven great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, 1947 East Seminole Street, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Monday, May 31, 2021.

A private graveside service will be held at Eastlawn Cemetery at 2244 East Pythian Street.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of the donor's choice.
