July 5, 1943 – October 22, 2018
Robert H. Turan, age 75 of Springfield, MO passed away at Cox Health South October 22, 2018.
Robert was born and raised in the Springfield, Missouri area. He attended schools in the local area and graduated from Central High School in 1961. After high school he attended one year of college and then decided to join the United States Air Force. Robert met and married his first wife, Judy L. Rayne, and had two daughters, Kristina and Elizabeth, before she was tragically killed in an automobile accident. He then met Jean L. Hurley, and they married on April 21, 1978. His new wife had a son, whom he adopted and raised with his new blended family.
Robert had a distinguished career in the Air Force, where he was a special investigator for over 23 years. After this he spent many more years in law enforcement and ended his work life at the Springfield Police Department where he retired in 2013.
Robert had many friends in the Springfield area and anywhere he went he would talk to anyone, making new friends along the way. His school time friends called themselves the circle of friends and stayed in touch over the years. They would get together regularly for dinners and recently got together one final time as the group members have passed on now. One of his best friends, Larry Cox, was with him to the end, and they had been friends for 65 years.
He was preceded in death by his father, Honoray Turan and mother, Minnie M. Turan; sister, Mary D. Boss; and granddaughter, Amber Lee Mergener.
Robert is survived by his spouse, Jean L. Turan, Springfield, MO; daughters, Kristina M. (Robbie) Elrod, Sanger, TX and Elizabeth D. Turan, Shawnee, OK; son, Michael R. (Beth) Turan, Ulm, MT; grandsons, Tyler M. Turan USAF, Tinker AFB, Oklahoma City, OK and Cody M. Turan, Ulm, MT; granddaughter, Destiny R. Turan, Ulm, MT; grandsons, Ryan R. Mergener and Layne Elrod; and granddaughter, Kaitlyn L. Elrod, all of Sanger, TX.
Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Burial will be at 9:00 AM, Friday, October 26, 2018 in Missouri Veterans Cemetery.
