Obituary

On Friday afternoon, May 23rd, Robert (Bob) Stallcup went to his final resting place in Glory with his son Brad and daughter Kirsten at his side.  Born on March 29 th , 1932 in Independence, Missouri, Bob was the eldest of four children. Born into humble beginnings, his family had a small farm, which was their only means of sustenance and supplies to barter. He joined the USAF during the Korean War when he was 21, but before he ever finished basic training, he collapsed in a field only to wake up in a hospital bed, unable to move his legs.  Polio had left him a paraplegic.  His initial diagnosis was grim but a year later he walked out of the VA hospital with the help of leg braces and crutches ready to get busy living.  He moved to California with his mother Josephine and three siblings Chuck, Jim and Betty. He then bought a house in Garden Grove and earned a BA in Accounting from California State University of Long Beach. While he was there he met the love of his life, Lori Lepper whom he asked out the first time on a dare.  After graduating, they married and started a family, welcoming their two children.  Bob had a successful career at Hughes Aircraft in the Finance Department and retired at age 57 with a Golden Handshake that he never regretted. In 1990, Bob and Lori headed back to Springfield, Missouri and enjoyed many more years of adventures, family and investing in their faith community at King's Way United Methodist Church. After Lori's death in 2014, Bob's last 6 years were spent at Mount Vernon Veteran's Home where he was an advocate for the residents and served three, 1 year terms as the Resident Counsel President for the veterans.  His faith in Christ, love for his family and generosity are the three things he will be remembered for most.  Two of his greatest passions were to Brookhurst/Central Garden Grove Little League and the Boy Scouts of America Troop 628.

Although our family's grief runs deep, we embraced a deeper sense of peace and gratitude for his life, spirit, laughter, strength, and deep and abiding love for God and all of Creation. Bob leaves behind his son Brad (Marcie) Stallcup, daughter Kirsten (Brian) Marsh, seven grandchildren – Andrew (Frances) and Erich Stallcup, Ian and Trevor Marsh, Gabe and Katie Rauhoff, and Richard (Sarah) Holland, along with three great grandchildren Skye and Lyric Holland and Ciara Stallcup.
