Robert J. Smith passed away May 24, 2013 at Mercy Hospital. He was born July 21, 1925 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Joseph and Mildred Smith. Robert served in the Navy during WWII on a destroyer. He worked for Birdseye Frozen Foods for a few years after leaving service and then worked for the Kellogg Sales Co. for the next 32 years. Bob and his wife Helen celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary February 7th. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard; and son-in-law, David Gibson. He is survived by his wife Helen; daughter, Sandra Gibson; sons, David (Cindy) Smith, Paul (Joy) Smith, and Mark (Anna) Smith; and grandchildren Ryan, Matt, Katy, Sam and Danny. Prayer Service will be held Monday at 7:00 p.m. followed by a visitation until 8:00 p.m. in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. with Father Alphonse M. Trivu, CMC Celebrant. Burial will follow in Hazelwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to The Kitchen or the charity of one's choice. The family would like to thank Dr. Richard Cunningham, Dr. John Hawkins and Dr. Ethan Hoerschgen for the wonderful care they gave Bob the last 2 years.
