Robert William Schroff, 83, died February 7, 2012 at the Manor at Elfindale following an extended period of health issues. The eldest son, Robert was born to Margaret and Highland Schroff on September 15, 1928 in New Madrid, MO. His family moved to Hiawatha, KS in 1930 where he graduated from High School in 1946. He enrolled at Baker University in Baldwin City, KS. Upon the death of his father, Robert interrupted his education to return to Hiawatha to assist his mother in the management of the family business. In 1949 he enrolled at Kansas University where he completed a degree in Marketing and Accounting. While attending KU, he met his wife, Grace Marie Tripp, whom he married in 1950. Following graduation Robert worked for the Carnation Company. He left Carnation and enrolled at the University of Kansas City, attending night school while working for Kanas City Life Insurance Company. He obtained his law degree and in 1955 he moved his family to Springfield where he joined the Mann Firm. In 1969 Robert opened his own law firm. Robert was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Richard (Corvallis, OR). He is survived by Grace, his wife of 62 years; brothers Carle (Springfield, MO) Charles (Poulsbo, WA), James (Topeka, KS) and John (Waynesboro, MS). He also leaves three sons, Daniel (Mesa, AZ), Robert Jr. (Edmonds, WA) and Stephen (Springfield, MO); grandchildren Nicholas, Eric, Max, Lauren, Grant, Stephanie, Phillip, Robert and Rachel; and great-grandchildren, Abby, Savannah and Dominic. In addition to his law practice Robert was active in his church, First and Calvary Presbyterian, serving as Elder and Deacon. In the community Robert served as Chairman of both the Springfield Zoning and Planning Board and City Utilities Board. He was president of the Greene County Bar Association and a member of the Board of Twin Oaks Country Club. He continued his volunteer services in the Springfield community as senior volunteer at St. John's Auxilliary. Robert and Grace enjoyed many years of travel and attending the school activities of their children and grandchildren. Services will be held Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at 3 p.m. at First and Calvary Presbyterian Church , under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, with the Reverend Greg Ellis officiating. Due to his love of reading, his family requests that donations be made in his memory to First and Calvary Stratman Library or to Hospice Compassus because of their dedicated support of Robert and his family.
