Robert Lee Rodgers, Sr. was called Home December 25, 2018 after a long illness and disabling injuries from a bicycle accident.

Born August 26, 1930, St. Louis, MO to parents Lewis K. and Mary M. (Eck) Rodgers.

He attended Kirkwood High School, class of 1950, where he played on the football team. He graduated with a degree in Geological Engineering from Washington University, St. Louis, MO in 1956.  Robert worked as an aerospace engineer at McDonnell Aircraft in St. Louis and Convair, Ryan Aeronautical, Inc. in San Diego.  Following this, Robert had a career change and became a geological environmental specialist at San Diego County before enjoying a long retirement in the Ozarks since 1981.

He loved nature and animals, especially dogs and horses and raised Missouri Foxtrotters for several years.  Robert was a passionate St. Louis Cardinals fan from boyhood on.  He loved learning and had many interests over the years: sailing, winemaking, raising Missouri Foxtrotters, gourmet cooking, hiking, bicycling, trail rides, sports cars (owned several Alfa Romeo cars), and traveling throughout USA and Canada. He made several trips to Mexico, including Mexico City and Guadalajara.  He also traveled to British Isles.

Robert was a dedicated family man.  He married Jean July 25, 1951 and had sons: Robert. Jr., Brian, and William and daughter: Barbara Jean, all of whom survive him. Robert is also survived by brothers Kenneth of Temple, TX and Wayne of St. Louis, 4 nephews and 3 nieces: Donna, Marilyn, Dale, Wayne Jr., Ron, Dalena, Rick.

The family thanks the staff, doctors and nurses of Mercy Healthcare, Integrity Hospice and Strafford Care Center for all their assistance over the years.

Services will be Saturday, December 29, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home.  Visitation will be Saturday from 1:30 p.m. until service time in the funeral home.
