Robert Paul Vienhage, age 94, died peacefully at home on February 15, 2025. Robert will be lovingly missed by his family: Joan Vienhage, his wife of 65 years; and his children and their families: Mary Rose (Mike) Blatner; Gretchen (Joe) Conboy; Matt (Jill) Vienhage; Ann (Brett) Conway; Michael Vienhage; Julia (Jason) Modest. He was a grandfather to 20 grandchildren and a great-grandfather to 6 great-grandchildren. Robert is preceded in death by his son, Rocco; daughter-in-law, Lisa; father and mother Samuel and Rose, and 5 siblings.
Born in Springfield, MO in 1930, Robert attended St. Agnes High School (now Springfield Catholic High School) and studied civil engineering at School of Mines and Metallurgy, Rolla (now Missouri University of Science & Technology). He served in the Army ROTC for 2 years and was stationed in Japan. Robert owned Acme Structural, Inc., a steel fabricating company in Springfield, MO, where he worked until he retired in 2006.
Robert was a kind, generous, faithful person who loved his family and his community. He was a participating member of the downtown Springfield Kiwanis Club for over 50 years. He especially enjoyed playing Santa every year at the Kiwanis Christmas luncheon for the Delaware Elementary School. Robert has been an active member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church for over 30 years. He participated in local nonprofit boards including the Springfield Symphony, the Council of Churches, and Missouri Society of Professional Engineers. He was also a dedicated blood donor, giving regularly for many years. Robert loved playing bridge and having dinner clubs with friends. He also enjoyed traveling around the world, especially to see his family across the country.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Springfield, MO. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Catholic Charities of Southern Missouri or Council of Churches of the Ozarks.
