Meyers, Sr.
November 19, 1924 – January 9, 2016
Robert "Bob" Meyers, 91 years of age, died of cancer January 9, 2016, at the Veteran's Home in Mt. Vernon, Missouri. He was born in Merriam, Kansas, in 1924 to Walter Absolam and Ruth Elizabeth Meyers.
He was a World War II Veteran of the US Navy aboard CVE-63 USS Saint Lô.
He married Martha Alice Neu in 1947 and graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in horticulture in 1949. He owned and operated the Leipsic Greenhouse from 1950 to 1975 and taught horticulture at Penta County Joint Vocational School from 1975-1987. He served the Village of Leipsic, Ohio, as a councilman and as a member of the Volunteer Fire Dept serving as Chief for 10 years. He was a member of Eastern Stars, Masonic Lodge, VFW, Elks, and County Democratic Party.
He retired to Springfield, Missouri, where he worked part-time as a florist at Consumers Grocery and was a member of First and Calvary Presbyterian Church.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, wife, sister Betty Ann, brother Richard Alfred, and son Richard William. He is survived by his children Robert, Jr and Martha Ann; grandchildren Robert III, James, Sarah, and Richard; and great grandchildren Brody, Leilah, and Bradyn.
Viewing will be at the Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, Springfield, on January 12 from 6-8 pm. Funeral services will be held at First and Calvary Presbyterian Church in Springfield on January 13 at 11 am. Graveside services with full military honors will be held on Friday, January 15 at 9 am at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery.
