Robert "Bob" Gene Smith, 82, passed away August 22, 2016, with his sister, "Suz", at his side.  He was preceded in death by his parents and older brother. He is survived by his sister, Susan Krebs and her husband Steve, plus several nieces and nephews.

There will be a graveside service at Hazelwood Cemetery on Friday, August 26, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Funeral arrangements are through Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home.

Bob resided at Springfield Skilled Care where he had numerous friends in the staff and residents. A special thank you to JoAnne Mayhue, Director of Social Services, for her kindness and support.  We also wish to thank Good Shepherd Hospice for the special care Bob received and the nursing staff on 7 West at Cox South for their tenderness with this gentle soul.

Bob was mentally disabled from birth.  Our wish is that one day people with a disability such as our beloved brother and uncle be accepted for who they are, not what they are.
