IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert "Bob"
Coons
January 31, 1944 – November 29, 2021
Robert "Bob" E. Coons, age 77, of Nixa, MO passed away on Monday, November 29, 2021, at 5:42 AM at Cox South Hospital surrounded by his family.
Bob, the son of E.N. Coons and Lillie (Abbott) Coons, was born on January 31, 1944, in Port Orchard, WA where his father worked in the shipyards during World War II.
Bob served in the Army National Guard at Fort Sill in Oklahoma. He was an independent contractor and master craftsman throughout his lifetime with multiple businesses including a manhole business, building dog houses, and building beautiful custom homes. Bob married his beautiful wife, Kathy Kellar, on July 9, 1988, in Sacramento, CA. Shortly thereafter they relocated to Ozark, MO. Bob was very active and seldom idle. He lived in many states and loved to travel. When his children were young, he made sure to show them many places on family vacations to different states along with Aunts, Uncles, and cousins. He had a fierce love for his siblings and was very happy when spending time with them.
He had a strong passion for cooking. His family and friends will surely miss his signature chicken and dumplings and extravagant salads. He enjoyed many other hobbies which include drag car racing, car renovations, model HO scale trains, camping, boating, horseback riding, and woodworking. Bob was a perfectionist who put his heart and soul into every task. His craftsmanship showed in the 250+ homes that he built, but his proudest legacy is his children and grandchildren. Bob enjoyed playing many games with his friends and family and ended most days with a competitive, aka "cutthroat", game of Aggravation.
Bob is survived by his wife of 33 years, Kathy, sons Michael (Rich) and Jason (Aleasha) both of Springfield, MO, daughters Tina (Chris) of Cool, CA and Shelli (Justin) of Springfield, MO; 3 sisters (Shirley, Margie, and Kathy), 1 brother (Richard), 9 grandsons (Josh, Ben, Dillon, Joshuah, Brandon, Jonny, Nicholas, Nathan, Bryce), 5 granddaughters (Leah, Alissa, Abbey, Natalie, Kate), 2 great-grandsons (Ike and Roman), and 1 great-granddaughter (Sonny). He was preceded in death by his parents, sister (Doris), and son (Charles).
Gathering of family and friends were a highlight of Bob's life. In honor of Bob, the family invites you all to gather to remember and celebrate a life well lived. The service will be held at 2 pm on Monday, December 6, 2021 at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home located at 1947 E. Seminole St. in Springfield, MO. Visitation will follow until 4 pm. He will be cremated, and his cremains will be buried at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Stillwell, Oklahoma next spring.
