Robert Haston Combs, 83, of Springfield, passed away November 8, 2017 at Mercy Hospital. He was born July 22, 1934 in Couch, MO and was also known as Ab, Haston, Son and Bob. Robert served twenty-four and a half years in the Air Force, worked at the Post Office and at Fort Leonard Wood. He received the Meritorious Service Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Award, the Vietnam Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
Robert and Jacqueline Goret were united in marriage on February 6, 1956. To this union three children were born. He is survived by his loving family, wife Jacqueline; son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Kim Combs; daughter and son-in-law, Christine and Jim Proe Jr; son and daughter-in-law, Philip and Michelle Combs; five grandchildren, Daniel Guynn, Jennifer Delloma, Kelly Combs, Joshua Combs and Scott Proe; five great-grandchildren; and four siblings, Marie Jones, Christine Case, Kenneth Combs and Verdie Nelson.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Robert N. and Virgie Hackworth Combs Russell; in-laws, Robert and Genevieve Goret; three sisters, Lois Kendrick, Joyce Keel and Shirley Cantrell; one brother, James "Hoot" Combs; and nieces and nephews.
Robert spent hours trying to predict the winning lotto numbers, loved watching his grand and great-grandchildren play sports. He also loved watching old western shows and told tall tales. He will be missed.
Services will be held at 12:30pm, Thursday, November 16, 2017 at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, 1947 E. Seminole, Springfield, MO. Graveside service with full military honors will follow at Missouri Veterans Cemetery at 2:00pm.
Memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or the charity of the donor's choice.
