Richard F. Petiford, age 86, of Springfield, passed away Sunday, January 17, 2010, in the Neighborhoods at Quail Creek. He was born November 22, 1923, in Walnut Grove, the son of Guy and Anna Killingsworth Petiford. He was a World War II U.S. Navy Veteran. Following his service, he graduated from Southwest Missouri State University. Mr. Petiford spent many years in the insurance business in Springfield. He was a member of King's Way United Methodist Church, and was a charter member of Twin Oaks Country Club where he enjoyed many years of golf and friendship. Mr. Petiford was preceded in death by his parents; and a step-daughter, Janet Sullins. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie of the home; sons, John of Springfield, and David of Danbury, Conn.; daughters, Joy Robertson and husband, David of Austin, Texas and Nancy Grayless of Tulsa, Okla.; and 10 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 19, 2010, in King's Way United Methodist Church, with the Reverend Jon Spalding officiating, under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. Inurnment will follow at a later date in King's Way Columbarium. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. this evening, in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to King's Way United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.
