Richard I. Langston, 92 of Springfield, Missouri passed away April 5, 2011. Richard, whose family helped settle Springfield in the 1800's was born February 21, 1919 to Walter W. and Agnes Silsby Langston in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. He was a graduate of Central High School and Drury College. In 1941 he enlisted in the U.S.M.C. After serving for five years and fighting in Guadalcanal in 1942-1943 he attained the rank of Major. Richard was a retired real estate broker and Rotarian. He is survived by Jean, his wife of 62 years; son, James and wife Phyllis; daughter, Becky Fetters and husband Jim; son, Richard and wife Mimi; grandchildren, Kristy Valett and husband Andrew; Kara and Stephanie Langston; Adam Fetters; and Joel and Trevor Langston. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 9 in First and Calvary Presbyterian Church under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Burial will precede the service at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday in Hazelwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. on Friday in the funeral home.
