Obituary

Richard Alan Barnes, 65, of Rogersville, MO passed away on Friday, November 10, 2017 in Mercy Hospital, Springfield, after a short illness, with his family by his side.

He was born on December 3, 1951, the second son of Albert Dwayne and Burma Jean (Sizemore) Barnes in St. Louis, Missouri.

Richard graduated from Ladue High School in Ladue, Missouri where he had been a 1969 St. Louis All-District Defensive Tackle.  He earned his B.A. in Geology from Washington University in St. Louis.  After being employed for several years in nuclear power plant construction, he began his career at the MO Department of Natural Resources in St. Louis, transferring later to the Springfield office.  After retiring from the state in 2016, he had currently been employed by EAE as an insurance adjustor for the Missouri PSTIF program.

He was a member of the Springfield Rod and Gun Club and Pheasants Forever.  Through his wife, Jan, he was a member of the Ozarks Scandinavian Society, where they were known for their coffee punch.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents, John and Sylvia Sizemore; his aunt, Marilyn Britton; and his mother-in-law, Virginia Jorgensen.

Richard is survived by his wife of 38 years and best friend, Jan of the home; his brother, Dennis (Suzie) Barnes, of Kirkwood, Missouri; his father-in-law, Harvey Jorgensen, of Springfield; his sisters-in-law, Karen Jorgensen, of Lebanon and Jill (Andy) Ingram of Springfield; his beloved nieces and nephew, Tara (Luis) Bryan de Canellas, North Charleston, South Carolina; Morgan Barnes, Greenville, South Carolina; Sydney Ingram and fiancé, Duke Johnson, and Spencer Ingram, all of Springfield.  He is also survived by an extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, and their children and grandchildren; a host of friends; his hunting buddies and his band of intrepid adventurers.  Know to us all as "Uncle Ricky", he will be sorely missed.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8:00pm, Friday, November 17, 2017 at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home.  Graveside service will be Saturday at 10:00am, November 18, 2017 at Hazelwood Cemetery.
