Richard A. Hagenhoff

November 15,1932 – June 23, 2026

Richard A. Hagenhoff, age 93, of Battlefield, Missouri, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2026, surrounded by the family he so dearly loved. Two days prior, on Father’s Day, he received the comfort of his Catholic faith through the Holy Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick at Mercy Hospital. Rich was a great man, husband and father.

Born in St. Louis, Missouri, to Al and Ann Hagenhoff, Rich was the eldest of four children. After graduating from DeAndreis High School in 1950, he began working for the Frisco Railroad before honorably serving his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Upon his return, he resumed his career at the railroad and met the love of his life, Anna Jacqueline "Jackie" Kralemann, on a blind date on a lucky Friday the 13th. They were married at Corpus Christi Catholic Church on September 8, 1956, beginning a beautiful 69-year journey together.

Rich’s career was defined by dedication and intellect. Rising through the ranks over 37 years, his work took the family to Springfield, Missouri, in 1964, and later to St. Paul, Minnesota, following the Burlington Northern merger. He retired at the age of 55 as Assistant Vice President of Information Systems. In retirement, Rich and Jackie embraced a vibrant second chapter in Kansas, traveling extensively across the United States and Europe, playing tennis and golf at every opportunity. While Rich possessed a lifelong love for travel and adventure, his greatest joy was always found at home, surrounded by his family sharing stories, laughter, and a cold beer at countless backyard barbecues.

A man of profound faith and quiet generosity, Rich dedicated his life to serving others. He was a Fourth Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus and spent countless hours volunteering with St. Joseph Hospital and Kansas City Hospice House.

His legacy of love and integrity lives on through his beloved wife, Jackie; their four daughters, Debbie West, Sandy Martin, Karen (John) Engler, and Diane (Mark) Hagel; nine grandchildren, Joey (Stephanie) Martin, Zach Engler, Kari (Phil) Hawkins, Jenna (Joe Hund) Engler, Jessie (Aaron Gilley) Zitur, Nick Engler, Niki Zitur, Michael Engler, and Ashley Veesenmeyer; and eight great-grandchildren, Jackson, Lincoln, Penelope, Grayson, Layla, Oliver, Vance, and Landen. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Kathleen Jackson and John Hagenhoff and survived by sister, Judy (Joe) Graman.

Services

• Visitation & Rosary: Tuesday, June 30, from 2:00–7:00 p.m. (Rosary at 6:00 p.m.) at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home.
• Celebration of Life Mass: Wednesday, July 1, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. Eulogy will precede the Mass, beginning at 10:45.
• Burial: A private interment will take place in Kansas City at a later date.
