Rex L. Potts, 87, Springfield, passed away at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 9, 2010 in ManorCare of Springfield, He was born November 2, 1922 in Republic, Missouri. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Louise (Williams) on February 14, 1943. He was a member of Southminster Presbyterian Church and Veteran of US Coast Guard during World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Ona Potts, a brother, Edward, and a sister, Ruth. Rex is survived by his wife, Betty, of the home; two daughters, Sandra and Jerry Zweerink, St. Joseph, Missouri; and Linda and Pat Parsons, Peoria, Illinois; two sons, Gary and Sherri Potts, Springfield; and Andrew, New York City; grandchildren, Scott, Jeff, Phillip, Brian, Brigitta, Benjamin and Dakota; and sixteen great-grandchildren. The family wishes to thank all who cared for Rex at Cox South, ManorCare and St. John's Hospice. A celebration of life will be held at Southminster Presbyterian Church at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 14, 2010. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, however friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Private family graveside services will be held in Maple Park Cemetery with the Reverend John Tranbarger officiating.
