Obituary

Reverend Hubert A. Lines, 88, Springfield, passed away Saturday, June 6, 2015. He was born September 27, 1926 in Osceola, Missouri, the son of Marva and Elsie Lines. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was stationed in Tokyo, Japan. Following the War, he attended the University of Missouri, Columbia from which he graduated with a B.S. in Vocational Agriculture and Bible and a minor in Agricultural Education. He taught for the Institutional on the Farm Training Program (training veterans to farm) in Marshfield and the Nevada, Tuscumbia, and Billings school districts. Additionally, he worked in sales at the Heers Dept. Store. Following this experience, he answered his call to the ministry and attained his Master of Divinity degree from the Missouri School of Religion. Rev. Lines served churches in Sparta, Elkland, Clever, and served for 22 years as the minister of First Christian Church of Monett, MO. In retirement, he volunteered his time as the Minister of Visitation and a Sunday School teacher at National Avenue Christian Church, as a volunteer foreman at Habitat for Humanity, and as a ramp designer for the Council of Churches "Connections" program. He married Ila Howell on September 7,1952, she was the love of his life and they enjoyed over 62 happy years together. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Cecil E. Lines and sister, Ruth Rosalene Lines. Rev. Lines is survived by his loving wife, Ila Lines; two sons, Stephen Lines of Springfield; and Kim Lines and his wife, Linda of Monett; and; four grandchildren, Lance Lines and wife, Brittany Nicole; Rev. Caleb Lines and wife, Shawnna; Brittany Lines; and Jon Lines and fiancée, Destiny Fisher; one great-granddaughter, Aaliyah Grace Mahoney; and a second great-granddaughter, Katherine Annabelle Lines, to be born in July; and two sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Edwards and Mary Charlotte Lines. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, 2015 in National Avenue Christian Church with Rev. Caleb Lines and Rev. Laura Fregin officiating, under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. Burial with full military honors will follow at Missouri Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Avenue Christian Church Justice Fund, 1515 South National Avenue, Springfield, MO 65804.
