Obituary

Retha N. Doyle, 91, passed away March 5, 2012, at Cox South Hospital. Retha was born in Lockwood, MO, on February 5, 1921, to Bill and Pearl (Pryor) Leedy. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Thomas J. Doyle. She is survived by her daughter, Deanna Henderson; her son, Thomas Doyle III; her grandson, Kevin and his wife Annette; her granddaughter Jamie Eckman and her husband Drew; her great-grandchildren, Michael and Matthew Henderson and Alexis Eckman; her sister, Linda Dye; and her nieces and nephew, Angela Steinert, Carrie Dye, and David Dye, as well as their children. Retha moved to Springfield in 1940. A graduate of Draughon's Business College, she worked for Heer's Department Store for 27 years. She was also an active member of First & Calvary Presbyterian Church for over 60 years. As an avid gardener, she was very proud of her beautiful flowers. Retha always loved music and danced for over two decades with the Kickin' Kountry Dance Team. She also loved baseball and enjoyed watching her husband pitch for minor league teams as well as celebrated Springfield teams of the 1940s and 1950s. She also enjoyed watching her son and great-grandchildren play on many local teams over the years. Above all, Retha loved her family, who also loved her dearly. She will be remembered as a loving wife, caring mother, wonderful aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother. Services will be held on Thursday, March 8, 2012 at 9:30am at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home with burial following in the National Cemetery.
