Obituary

Reita Mae (Trogdon) Davis, 95, passed away peacefully with her children there at The Fremont Assisted Living on Thursday, December 14, 2023, after a very long struggle with dementia.  She was born May 16, 1928, in Greene County and was married to Paul E. (Rusty) Davis for 60 years. They had two children, Cindy Wetzel and Larry Davis of Springfield.

Reita was a wonderful mother who dedicated her life to her family, forever loving and putting them first. Reita and Rusty were generous in every way, always ready to help and have fun with their children and grandchildren.  They supported them in all their activities, took them camping and made lots of memorable trips across the United States. And she made the absolute best coconut cream pie.

Reita and Rusty were partners in all they did, including working on their house and rental property, traveling in their travel trailer, round dancing and having family get togethers.  Reita also worked for several years as an administrative assistant at Greene Valley State School. They were long time members and active at Second Baptist Church until they were unable to due to health.

Her husband and her seven siblings preceded her in death as well as her parents, Julian and Elsie Leah Trogdon, who both died when she was only 13 years old.  She lived with her older sister, Velma, until she was 18 and graduated from Central High School. She is survived by daughter Cindy (John) Wetzel; son Larry (Marilyn Chisholm) Davis. Also granddaughters Summer (Alex) Davis; Stephanie (Matthew) Paresky; Leah (Brett) Blanton; Amy Wetzel; and great grandchildren Solomon Paresky, Anna and Adam Blanton, Declan Grady.

Arrangements are through Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home with visitation there on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, from 11am-12. Graveside services will follow at 12:30 pm at Brookline Cemetery, on W Farm Rd 156, Springfield.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Alzheimer's Association are requested.  We wish to express our gratitude to the Intrepid Hospice care team and to the staff at The Fremont who cared for and loved Reita for so many years.  It was a long journey home to the Lord.
