IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Reginald "Regi"
Lynn Martin
June 2, 1959 – February 16, 2023
Reginald "Regi" Lynn Martin, died peacefully at her home on February 16 th , 2023 surrounded by many friends and family before her passing. Regi courageously and fiercely fought cancer with Callee by her side as an advocate and encourager. Her courage inspired everyone she knew and those she met along the journey.
Regi was born on June 2nd, 1959 in Springfield, Missouri to parents, Linda and Dan Martin, both of whom preceded Regi in death. Regi is survived by her spouse of 15 years, Callee Greninger, and Jeff Griggs, Linda's partner and Regi's long-time friend. Regi is also survived by her siblings Danny Martin and Kelly Martin. Regi was the beloved aunt to her surviving nieces Jessi Bentz, Bayli Martin and nephew Jake Martin. Also surviving were her furry friends, Brew and Callee Girl.
Regi graduated from Kickapoo in 1977 after being elected as the first female Student Body President in Springfield, an achievement that Regi downplayed but a source of pride for friends and family. While in high school, she played volleyball, was an accomplished discus thrower and played basketball. Regi's basketball career included a sought-after appearance in the state championship tournament in 1976. Regi was a gifted athlete, participating in Summer Fastpitch Softball starting at 16 as the youngest member of the team. She was endearingly referred to as "Kids" by the team who admired Regi's infallible memory and her gifted knowledge of the game. As the general on the field, she worked well with her pitchers, knowing just the right pitch to call for any given batter or situation. During the five years, the team placed 1 st in the ASA state tournament three different times going on to finish in the top 10 in Nationals all three years.
Regi earned the opportunity to attend KU on a full scholarship for her natural abilities in discus but chose to stay closer to home. Regi attended MSU (formerly SMSU) where she played volleyball and softball receiving many accolades as a catcher; winning 1 st in Regionals and qualifying for the College World Series twice in her four years. In 1980, Regi graduated with a BS in Psychology, moved to Texas and attended SMU in Dallas, TX where she received her JD in Business Law. After passing the Texas Bar on her first attempt, Regi practiced law at Mohaffy & Webber in Beaumont, TX from 1984-1990.
Regi then moved back to Springfield to be closer to her family and assist in running the family horse business. Regi's love of horses and playing polo were evident to all who knew her. With the dream of making the Kentucky Derby, Regi was actively involved in training and care of their thoroughbred; loving when they ran at Churchill Downs.
Regi continued with the small business tradition as she helped run Endless Summer, the family garment company. She then became one of the founders of Galloway Station, transforming it from a mostly exclusive motorcycle hangout to one of the hippest hangouts in Springfield.
After being away from the legal field for years, Regi impressed many as she demonstrated her expertise in law once again by passing the Missouri Bar on her first attempt. Regi became a Family Law Practitioner from 2007-2016 and served as guardian ad litem with a passion to put children's interests and well-being over all else. In 2016, Regi became an Honorable Judge, appointed Family Court Commissioner. She even held court in her hospital room; her devotion and work ethic kept her working up until her death.
Regi was the quintessential entertainer, friend, and confidante. When she threw a party, everyone she knew, and some she didn't, would show up. She was passionate about life; watching "her" Cowboys on the football field, playing golf, cooking the perfect steak or hamburger on the grill, competing at cards and fantasy football, camping and floating with friends, traveling across the US visiting as many National Parks as she could with whomever would go along. She was just as comfortable staying at the Ritz as she was camping out (especially if the camping included a late-night chili dog cooked over the fire).
Regi made Jesus her Lord & Savior the night before she passed. Her entire life embodied selflessness, humility, witty humor, intelligent but respectful debate, and loving kindness. Despite being a judge, Regi was not the type to judge others; she created connections with everyone and made each person feel important. Regi may have departed this world, but she has left an indelible mark on her beloved friends, family and acquaintances. Regi's kind spirit will live on through each of them.
Callee invites friends and family to celebrate Regi's life. In lieu of flowers, she requests contributions be made to Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks, www.bcfo.org , or 620 W. Republic Rd. Ste 107, Springfield, MO 65807.
