Raymond Lee Pendergrass, 82 years old, of Springfield, MO passed away on February 17, 2022, while recovering from a fractured hip.  He was at a local rehabilitation facility in Springfield, MO.  He had been ill over the last 2 years.  He had been treated for Rheumatoid arthritis for over thirty years and had developed aortic stenosis, but was a poor candidate for surgical procedures.  He failed to improve with rehabilitation, and he opted for Hospice care in the end, knowing he was not improving.   The family will have a visitation at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home on Monday February 28, 2022, from 4-6 p.m.  He desired cremation and there will not be a graveside ceremony.

Raymond was born on July 19, 1939 in Springfield, MO to Ray Pendergrass and Mazie Mason-Pendergrass.  He attended Central High school in Springfield, MO and graduated in the first class of the newly built Parkview High School in 1957.

While in high school he became employed at Consumers Market, where he started as a carry out.  He continued to work for Consumers for the next 31 years.  He achieved the position of Director of store operations over all stores, over 30 at that time.  While working at Consumers he met his future bride, Jackie Sandra Miller from Rudd, AR.  They married on November 6, 1959 and were married 62 years at the time of his passing.

After leaving Consumers he and Jackie leased a Solo market on West Grand street for 5 years.  The city of Springfield purchased the store as part of the 4 lane expansion of Grand street.  They then purchased a grocery store in Greenfield, MO where they worked for 13 years before retirement.

On November 18, 1960 Craig Lee Pendergrass was their first child, followed by Raymond Paul Pendergrass on September 6, 1964.  Craig is married to Vivian and they have 4 children and 6 grandchildren.  Paul has one child and one granddaughter.
