Raymond John Miekley, 94, of Springfield passed away surrounded by his daughter, Rayanna and son-in-law, John on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 from complications of a stroke. He was born on the family farm in Billings, Missouri to Otto and Anna Miekley on December 3, 1919. In 1938 he moved to California with friends before returning home to help with the family farm. Ray mowed and helped with the upkeep with the Smart Cemetery, farmed with his father and helped prepare the Tell Schoolhouse that was located on the family farm. He also worked for Douglas Aircraft Company to manufacture airplanes during the war effort. He later retired from Loren Cook Company. He married Thelma Jackson on April 1, 1955 in Springfield, and they shared 47 years together. Ray was a longtime member of South Haven Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Thelma Arizona Jackson. Raymond is survived by daughter, Rayanna Anderson and husband, John; and granddaughter, Michelle Boyce and husband Wesley. A graveside service will be held Friday, February 28, 2014 at 2:00pm in Smart Cemetery, Billings, MO with the Reverend Nicholas W. Inman officiating, under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. No formal visitation is planned; however, friends may call Thursday after 2pm in the funeral home.
