Obituary

Raymond M. Herman, 87, previously of Springfield, Missouri, Kansas City, Missouri, & Oklahoma City, OK, died on August 23 at Indian Rock Village Health Care in Fairfield Bay, Arkansas, where he had resided for seven years. Burial, with full military honors, will be Friday, August 26, at 10 a.m. at the Veterans Cemetery in Springfield, MO. Friends are welcome to join the family for visitation on Thursday, August 25, from 6 - 8 p.m. at the Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home on Seminole. Mr. Herman was born on June 27, 1924 in Leeds, MO. He served as a Corporal in the U. S. Army, 84th Infantry Division during the Battle of the Bulge Campaign in World War II. He was accepted into the Advanced Specialist Training Program (ASTP), receiving an engineering degree from Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA. After serving, he returned to Kansas City where he began his career with Retail Credit Company. He later worked for Tension Envelope Corporation as a sales representative in Springfield and Oklahoma City, OK. He was a long-time member of the Springfield First Baptist Church, serving as a deacon, adult and kindergarten boys' Sunday School classes, and on various church committees. While living in Oklahoma City, he was a member of the Quail Springs Baptist Church, and was a deacon and chairman of the finance committee. On October 8, 1943, he married Lucille V. Moore, his life-long friend and sweetheart since kindergarten. They were married for 62 years till her death in December of 2005. Preceding him in death are 2 sisters and 2 brothers. He is survived by three children, son Judge Douglas (Sarah) Herman of Fargo, ND; son Fred (Willena) Herman of Fairfield Bay, AR; and a daughter Nan (Paul) Bateman of Garland, TX; seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He was loved as an exemplary father and grandfather by family, and cherished by many dear friends.
