Randy Stewart entered this life on November 19, 1956, in Burge Protestant Hospital. As he grew up, he learned to love all kinds of Radio and with the help of his best friend Steve Tharp, developed a great love for classical music and opera. He went to Glendale High School in Springfield, Missouri and then Southwest Missouri State University where he received a bachelor's degree in Broadcast Media. During his time at SMSU he began working at KSMU radio. His talent earned him a full-time position, and he continued to work there for 48 years total. In 1984, he was married to Tammy Holliday and the marriage lasted 40 years. Shortly after he retired, he went back to work at KSMU part-time, but his cancer spread, and he passed away in Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri on July 1, 2024.
Randy is survived by his wife Tammy of Battlefield, Missouri; sister Reida Drago, nephew Ricky Donaldson, niece Stephanie Rothey and her husband Allen, all residing in Florida; and his mother-in-law, Helen Holliday of Battlefield. Preceding him in death were his parents Helen and James Stewart and brothers-in-law Tony Drago and Greg Holliday.
Randy's memorial service will be held Saturday, July 13, 2024, at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to KSMU public radio, 901 S. National, Springfield, MO 65897, or to the American Cancer Society.
