Ramon "Ray" Shane, 84, passed away peacefully in his home August 27, 2016. He was born in Henryetta, OK on July 6, 1932. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl; son Steven and daughter-in-law Julie; daughter Regina and son in-law David; and five beautiful grandchildren, Andrew, Samantha, Justin, Leah and Hailey; as well as his sister Ruth Ann of Texas; his brother Don and sister-in-law Jan, of North Carolina.
Ray had many adventures in life. He and his brother and sister worked in a glass factory growing up alongside their Dad. Ray joined the army and served his country two years. After his discharge from the army, he pursued his medical degree from the University of Oklahoma. Ray's specialty was cardiothoracic surgery. He performed over 10,000 open-heart surgeries and was involved in the evaluation of ultra sound imaging of the vascular structures of the body for 35 years.
Ray was instrumental in beginning the open-heart surgical program in Southwest Missouri as well as bringing new modern techniques to existing surgical procedures. He was board certified with American Board of Surgery and American Board of Thoracic Surgeons. He was a member of multiple medical societies.
Ray made a lot of friends along the way. He loved to hunt, fish, scuba dive and snow ski. He fought Parkinson's his last few years. He will be greatly missed his family and friends.
