Obituary

Phyllis Mae Bennett (Andrews) McAuley Phyllis Mae Bennett (Andrews) McAuley, age 87, was born February 6, 1924 in Myrtle, MO and went to her final resting place on March 23, 2011 in Springfield, MO due to congestive heart failure and pneumonia complications . She was the youngest of the seven children born to John Wesley and Mary Esther (Vaughn) Bennett of Oregon County, MO. On June 23, 1943 Phyllis was united in marriage to Roy Edward Andrews in Alton, MO and to this union her only daughter, Brenda Jean Andrews, was born. In October, 1956, she married Glen Robert McAuley in St. Louis, MO where she resided for over forty years. After the death of her second husband, Phyllis moved to Springfield, MO in May, 1991 to be closer to her daughter and other family members. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, sisters Alzia Gower, Novella Langston, and Lucille Clark, and brothers Melvin, Shelby, Lawrence, and Donis Bennett . She is survived by her daughter Brenda Andrews, Springfield, MO, her granddaughter Tiffany Jean White and husband Ryan, Highlandville, MO, great-grandchildren Taylor Haldoupis, Reece White, and infant Morgan Mae White, as well as her sister-in-law, Hazel Bennett, Thayer, MO and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and dear friends. Prior to her declining health Phyllis loved to read, work word puzzles, grocery shop, and bake chocolate chip cookies to give to others. She took great pride in keeping her home in order. She also had a passion for typing long detailed letters to family and friends on the old-fashioned typewriter, and wore out more than one. She was also likely to use scotch tape to try to fix anything and everything. Phyllis' family extends a very special thank you to the staff and residents at Spring Ridge Assisted Living which she was so happy to call "home" the last few years. Thanks also go to Dr. Robert Scott, Dr. Norman Knowlten, and the Cox South medical staff for her care during the "rough" times, and to the wonderful neighbors and extended family that enjoyed sharing in her kind, generous, and sometimes "feisty"nature. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM Saturday, March 26, 2011 at Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel, 1947 E. Seminole, Springfield, MO. Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Sunday, March 27, 2011 at the Thayer Cemetery, Thayer, MO. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to a charity of your choice.
