Philip L. Erb, age 93 went home to be with the Lord Monday, August 31, 2009. Philip Lewis Erb was born September, 20, 1915 in Cedar Gap, Missouri to Phil and Ellen Ellet Erb. In World War II he was in the 22 Marines attached to the 5th amphibian and was awarded the Purple Heart medal. He was a member of the military order of the Purple Hearts and was a life-long member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was united in marriage to Jane Leascher on December 19, 1946. They moved to Marionville where he owned and operated Erb's Market for many years. He later worked with his brother at Phil Erb Refrigeration in Springfield, Mo. He was a member of Ozark Grocer's Association. He was an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his wife Jane Erb of the home, four daughters: Helen Richardson and husband Troy of Rolla, Mo; Ellen Erb of Fenton, Mo; Sally Hitt and husband Jim of Bloomfield, Ky; Phyllis Barnett and husband Alvin of Republic, a sister Mildred Gilbert, and husband Ralph, Springfield, MO; a brother Robert Erb, and wife Shirley, Seattle, WA; 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He was an inspiration to all who knew him. Memorial services will be held at 11 AM Friday, September 4, 2009 in Wesley United Methodist Church under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. Inurnment will follow at 2 PM Friday, September 4, 2009 in Missouri Veterans Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 PM Thursday, September 3, 2009 in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church "Adult Curriculum Fund" or " Benevolence Fund", 922 W. Republic Rd., Springfield, MO 65807.
