Peter "Pete" Francis Snawerdt, 85, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, Feb. 19, 2024, surrounded by family. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., on Friday, Feb. 23, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Springfield, followed by a funeral mass at 10:30 a.m.
Pete was born on April 29, 1938, in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of Peter and Margaret (Woslager) Snawerdt. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1956, serving on active duty for two years, followed by six years in the reserves. He married Jeanne Brinker on July 14, 1962. The couple raised five children in Omaha, and Pete worked at Western Electric/AT&T/Lucent for 39 years.
After retiring, Pete and Jeanne lived in Plattsburg, Missouri, and enjoyed traveling the world. They later moved to Springfield, Missouri, his final place of residence. Throughout his life, Pete enjoyed gardening, playing cards, reading, and traveling.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanne Snawerdt, Springfield; a brother, Edward Snawerdt, Omaha, Nebraska; and five children: Peter "Rocky" (Kathy) Snawerdt, Indian Harbor Beach, Florida; James "Jim" (Sharon) Snawerdt, Sperry, Iowa; Robert "Robb" (Ginger) Snawerdt, Lenexa, Kansas; Timothy "Tim" (Sally) Snawerdt, St. Joseph, Missouri; and Jeanine (Mike) Dickens, Springfield; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Pete will be dearly missed and remembered for his smile, sense of humor, work ethic, and dedication to the church.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Ozark Food Harvest in Pete's honor.
